THE DISPOSSESSION is a sci-fi, poetic, prosthetic, cybernetic performance/ritual/dance/commercial/nightmare.
THE DISPOSSESSION extracts the language, culture and iconography of the anti-ageing industry within a cybernetic now/future, actualising a frequently horrifying, inherently grotesque, emotionally erratic anxiety pulsed from Death’s pitchfork - wrinkles, greys, stretch marks, elongated skin, crow eyes - ageing! Part cosmetic commercial, part leaking 80s Cronenberg monstrum, part mirror morning beauty ritual, THE DISPOSSESSION will present banal everyday bodily upkeep in a brutal horror/nightmare, wrapped up in a pastel Lancôme plastic tube and a sky-high build-board of Heidi Klum. For the reality behind the luxury pampering packages, at least for us, involves pore exploding exfoliation, silicon pumping injections, chemical dyes, laser treatments, never-ending sacrifices, night long anxiety spirals and new-age ‘health’ remedy internet searches - heaved in shame, covered in too much moisturiser, over concealed, limiting facial movements, obsessively searching the skin for new marks and bulges, anxious about the next meal.
Littered with pop-cultural references, brutal honesty, impassioned feminist poetics, bile humour, integrated projection, stomach turning prosthetics and a blockbuster cinematic score, this emotional/societal/secret reality, experienced by many but spoken by few, will be unravelled in all its explicit gore-glory, revealing a capitalised social phenomena that can consume the youth, shame the middle-aged and ostracise the elderly.
