Forest of the Inside was located in an inner-city warehouse and car park (The Seed Factory). It was a game of disorientation and discovery, as participants navigated themselves through a vast indoor labyrinth, encountering elements of performance and installation art, until arriving at an outdoor performance against the backdrop of a Clifton Hill railway line.
Working collaboratively for over eight months, Forest of the Inside was inspired by Hansel and Gretel, gender identity and repressed memory. It experimented with non-linear storytelling and audience experience, rupturing the boundary between internal fantasy and exterior reality, creating a dark forest of broken memories.
